Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the U.S. She's worked as an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency provides videos, commentary and analyses of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded prizes for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are depicted in popular media. Aiming to break down the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture she also is a vocal advocate for issues relating to the targeted harassment of women as well as other classes of the Internet space. Sarkeesian has a degree in the fields of social thought and political science from York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public speaking. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in gender issues and feminism from a very young stage of her life. In 2009, when she was in university she launched the Feminist Frequency website. The ambitious lady planned to launch an internet program that would examine gender representation in games, and was then the victim of a harassment campaign online. The attack did not stop her, but instead strengthened the determination of feminist media critic. Numerous awards have been given to her for all the contributions that she have made. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit investigates women's representation in popular culture of today.
